Taste and See

Colossians 3:16 says…  “Let the word of Christ dwell richly among you, in all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another through psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts.”

This Sunday the worship ministry teams will be introducing a new congregational song based on a Psalm.  The lyrics are a paraphrase of Psalm 34 set to a blues-rock melody, first sung by Shane and Shane.  The text of the three verses is as follows…

I sought the Lord, and He answered me
And delivered me from every fear
Those who look on Him are radiant
They'll never be ashamed
They'll never be ashamed

This poor man cried, and the Lord heard me
And saved me from my enemies
The Son of God, surrounds His saints
He will deliver them, He will deliver them

O taste and see that the Lord is good
Oh blessed is he who hides in Him
O, fear the Lord, all you saints
He'll give you everything
He'll give you everything

If you are feeling overwhelmed with this life, this Psalm is an encouragement to  remember the faithfulness and provision of God. If you are joyful in the Lord, this Psalm will prepare you for future trials. If you are experiencing apathy, this Psalm can open your eyes to the goodness of the Lord. If you are waiting on God for answers, this Psalm reminds you to rely on God and revere Him rather than fearing your circumstances.

Spend some time in Psalm 34 this month, and let this expression of worship not only encourage you, but become a way for you to encourage others.
