Happy New Year!
Happy New Year! 2018 is off and running and I hope you are excited to venture into this new year and see what God has in store for your life. For some of us, we did not want 2017 to end because it was a great year for us. Others of us could not wait for 2017 to be over in hopes that 2018 will be much better. Maybe there are others of us who are mostly indifferent for whatever reason. I, personally, am excited about 2018 and what is to come. 2017 was a really good year for our family, yet we were disappointed we did not get to meet the child God has for us to adopt from Colombia. We expect to hear some good news from our adoption agency in the next few months as we continue to pray and prepare for this new chapter in our lives.
As I have been praying and anticipating 2018 for my family and for our church family, I am expectant for God to do something great among us as we make much of Jesus and strive to share the Gospel to those around us. Paul reminds us in Ephesians 3:20-21 “Now to Him who is able to do above and beyond all that we ask or think according to the power that works in us – to Him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen.” These verses are exciting because it tells us God is able to do more than we could ever imagine!
Think about this for a moment – whatever great and exciting opportunities we are asking and expecting God to do in our lives, He can do so much more. God certainly can achieve anything He wants apart from us, but the more faithful and disciplined we live according to His Word, the greater likelihood we will see God do above and beyond all we ask or think. As I have spent time in prayer over the last couple of weeks while enjoying some vacation time and family time, God has continued to challenge me with the word “discipline.” I need to strive for greater discipline in all areas of my life, but most importantly in the areas of spiritual discipline.
I have been reminded by God to be diligent and faithful in reading God’s Word, memorizing God’s Word, worshiping Him, serving Him, giving sacrificially to His church and mission, praying, and engaging others with the message of the Gospel. I am praying for you and I ask you to pray for me, as we seek God together to experience His power at work in us in 2018.
