This week is one of my favorite weeks of the year. It is important for us to take time to reflect and remember the life of Jesus as He prepared to take our sins with Him to the cross. Of course we should daily reflect on the magnitude of Jesus’ death and resurrection, but I am thankful we intentionally set aside time each Spring to celebrate Easter.
Easter is a great opportunity to invite family and friends who may not normally attend church. We will get a chance to meet and interact with some new faces at our Good Friday and Resurrection Sunday services. I hope you are making plans to attend both of those services as we have prayerfully prepared meaningful worship experiences.
Take some time this week to read and reflect on the life of Jesus as he journeyed to the cross. I encourage you to read in the Gospels from Jesus’ triumphal entry (beginning in Matthew 21, Mark 11, Luke 19, and John 12) all the way through His crucifixion and resurrection. Try to put yourself in Jesus’ shoes to discover what He may have thought and felt as He prepared to carry out the greatest act of love mankind has ever seen.
Let us approach Good Friday and Easter Sunday with prayer and expectation. I believe God wants to renew our passion for Jesus Christ and this weekend may be our prime opportunity to experience a fresh anointing of God’s presence and power in our lives. Pray. Invite. Come expectant as we celebrate Jesus this week.
