What a great day of worship we had yesterday. We kicked off a new series entitled “Pursuit.” I don’t know about you, but I can easily get sucked into the trap of watching a good police pursuit. Of course, I clearly remember the O.J. Simpson pursuit in the infamous white Bronco many years ago. One time recently I was driving on 635 when a police pursuit was taking place around us. The helicopters, the numerous police vehicles in all directions, and the news crews had me excited and Erin was very nervous. I wanted to follow the action but the chase diverted away from the direction we were going, so we continued on our way to our destination.
In these instances, the law enforcement officers were pursuing a suspect who had committed a crime and they were attempting to catch the criminal and bring them to justice. When God pursues us, His desire is to catch us and restore us, not to punish us. Though we are all sinners, and God certainly pursues us when we drift, or run, away in disobedience, His desire is to extend His grace to us. I am grateful beyond words for the way God loves us and relentlessly pursues us because He wants a deep, growing relationship with us. I hope through this series all of us will recognize the ways God pursues us and see His hand at work drawing us to Himself. Ask God to make you aware of His pursuit in your life – see Him in the details, the relationships, and the circumstances of your life.
In addition to this sermon series in May, we have so many exciting opportunities happening this month. Next Sunday is Mother’s Day, which is always a great day to worship with family and friends, but this year we will have a special opportunity. We will have a photo booth set up in Room 100 for families to take pictures before Small Groups and after worship. Invite family and friends to join us for this special day. We will also participate in a parent/child dedication on Mother’s Day as well. The following Sunday is HeeHaw (which is always great fun), but we will also be recognizing several graduates in our morning worship service. The last Saturday of the month (May 26th) the Men’s Ministry is leading a Block Party to connect with our local neighborhoods, which is a great chance for us to serve together as a church.
Make plans to be part of all that is happening here at South Hills during the month of May and invite others to join us. Have a great week and know you are loved!
