We have made it to the final week of school as the month of June is around the corner. Summer is here (though the first official day is June 21st) and with summer comes a variety of emotions. Teachers and students are celebrating and rejoicing greatly with excitement. On the other hand, some parents are excited while others may not be nearly as excited for various reasons. Yet, for others summer only means hotter temperatures and less school traffic to and from work.
I believe it is appropriate to take a moment to say THANK YOU to all of our teachers, administrators, and school staff who work hard throughout the school year (and beyond). The job of working in education is difficult and stressful, but our children and teenagers need you to teach and develop them as they grow. Whether you have children in school or not, make an effort to appreciate all who work in the field of education.
However you may feel about the transition to summer, make a commitment to stay involved in the many wonderful ministry opportunities here at South Hills. Though our weekly worship schedule does not change, some of the events and programs look different. We have special events like Student Ministry Camp, Preteen Camp, Vacation Bible School, C.A.S.H., and the Seattle Mission Trip. You can get involved in many of these events through prayer, giving, and serving. Ladies, I encourage you to join our new Women’s Bible Study starting next week. Men, get involved in our weekly Applied Faith Men’s Bible Study.
Though summer is often a season for vacations, let us not take a vacation from worshiping, serving, and giving each week. Enjoy the opportunity for time off from work or a more relaxed schedule at home, but do not relax in your pursuit of growing in your faith and reaching people for Jesus. Though some events and ministries are different in the summer, we definitely do not slow down in fulfilling our mission as a church. I am excited about what God has for us this summer, so let us make the most of it for Jesus.
