You Will Be My Witnesses

“You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, Judea, and Samaria and to the ends of the earth.” (Acts 1:8)

In yesterday’s sermon I referenced this verse to remind us we are empowered by the Holy Spirit to share the good news of the gospel. This verse also reminds us of the mandate we have as believers and the church to share the gospel right here in our neighborhoods, this region, state, nation, and all over the world.

As a pastor I certainly want to lead us to fulfill God’s mission for His church. It seems logical to start with local mission projects, then find mission opportunities in the region, the state, and eventually around the world.

However, often what seems logical to us is much different than what God has planned. The thought of jumping into a missions partnership across the United States before we established some local missions relationships seems out of order. However, God is
orchestrating great ministry as a result. I am excited our church is partnering with Andy Brown and The Landing Church in the Seattle, Washington area.

Andy is a great example of a passionate church planter and pastor who is fully surrendered to the call of God on his life. Their church is dependent on many churches and individuals for support through prayer, financial giving, and mission trips. They are using these resources to maximize gospel impact in a region of the country where it is difficult to successfully grow evangelical churches. Thank you, church family, for supporting this opportunity we have. Being in partnership with The Landing Church is helping us minister in our local community as we learn from them.

Andy, along with a few others from The Landing Church, will be here at South Hills on Wednesday night. Make plans to join us for a meal, worship, and learning from Andy. He will be sharing the story of their church as well as updates on how God is at work in their church and city. Invite others to worship with us and catch the vision for supporting this great pastor and great church. We are currently planning another mission trip to Seattle possibly this summer, so be watching for an announcement soon. Have a great week and we look forward to seeing you on Wednesday night.
